What Is Linux?
Linux is an alternative operating system for PCs and many other
computing platforms. If you've never
used anything other than Windows 9x, Me, 2000, XP, Vista etc, you'll
find
that Linux is a whole new world!
While some consider desktop Linux to be a geek toy, recent developments
make various distributions of
this O/S a real contender!
After all, what would you say about an operating system that can do the
following:
- Surf the web
- Send/Receive EMAIL
- View and Post to Usenet Newsgroups
- Listen to, RIP and burn audio CDs
- Burn data CDs / DVDs
- Watch a DVD or VCD
- Edit Sound
- Edit/view spreadsheets, documents, PDFs
- Keep a calendar
- Edit photos / draw
- ...and the list goes on!
I would say: How do I get it into my
computer! Plus, the mascot is a lot cuter than Bill (sorry, BG !)
