My Trip To WRAM 2005
(Westchester Radio Aero Modelers Show)

Return to Main
I really enjoyed my trip down to the WRAM show this year.  For those of you unfamiliar with this event, it's a once a year show that includes radio controlled model airplanes, cars, boats and even submarines!  While I don't often build models myself, I like to keep track of the technology and check out useful accessories.

The hit of the show in the accessories category appears to be West Mountain Radio's
CBA II Computerized Battery Analyzer.  This is a computer controlled unit with a USB interface that discharges batteries while graphing the battery's behavior.  Apparently, I'm not the only geekazoid who obsesses over what battery packs are really capable of!  This makes sense, given what's at stake when you fly a model airplane worth hundreds or thousands of dollars.  Losing control of your model boat due to bad batteries isn't too swift, either.  I'm really looking forward to experimenting with this instrument.

My favorite $5.00 goo-gaw has to be the Rave LED Fan.  This gadget appears to be some type of E.T. signaling device!  More than that, it takes me back to the wonder of childhood with the mere flick of a switch!  Just when you think it's done all the patterns, it surprises you with a new LED delight.  I'm not sure where you get these on a regular basis, but I willl keep an eye out for them.  You'll probably see it popping up at shows of all kinds.  Surprisingly, there are sites dedicated to things that light up and look good on the dance floor.  Try searching for rave led on your favorite search engine.

If I think of anything else, I will post it here.
