Notes
for Dial-Up Users
Contrary to what you might
expect, I've found that dial-up connections can work
quite well with EchoLink. I've heard from other users from as far
away as India
via dial-up ISP connections!
When I go on the road, I successfully use dial-up. The key is to
get a connection
that is as close to 50K as possible. Also, shut down any software
that might
hog the connection - such as email and instant messaging clients.
Dial-up
software that uses most of your connection speed to display ads may not
work.
Don't forget to use the EchoLink Test Server if you have any
doubts! From the
main screen, choose Station -> Connect to Test Server. Once
connected, the
system will send you an introductory message. After that, it will
echo back
anything you say (assuming that you press and release the push-to-talk).
If you hear your voice coming back with decent quality, other stations
should
also!
